Meniere's disease.

چکیده
How common is it? The quoted prevalence for Meniere’s disease varies 100-fold, but a study in 2010 reported a prevalence of 190 per 100 000 population in the United States. Thus an average primary care practice of 5000 patients would be expected to see 5 to 10 patients with this chronic condition. Meniere’s disease is generally diagnosed in the fourth to sixth decades of life and consequently the incidence of new onset disease is low. General practitioners may encounter a new case only a few times in their career. As full time general practitioners may expect to encounter 10-20 new cases of vertigo each year, it is clear that Meniere’s disease is an uncommon cause of new onset vertigo in primary care.

HLA-Cw Allele Frequency in Definite Meniere’s Disease Compared to Probable Meniere’s Disease and Healthy Controls in an Iranian Sample
INTRODUCTION Several lines of evidence support the contribution of autoimmune mechanisms in the pathogenesis of Meniere's disease. The aim of this study was determining the association between HLA-Cw Alleles in patients with definite Meniere's disease and patients with probable Meniere's disease and a control group. MATERIALS AND METHODS HLA-Cw genotyping was performed in 23 patients with def...
متن کاملBlockage of longitudinal flow in Meniere's disease: A human temporal bone study
CONCLUSION Blockage of the endolymphatic duct is a significant finding in Meniere's disease. The position of the utriculo-endolymphatic valve (UEV) and blockage of the ductus reuniens in the temporal bones were not found to be directly indicative of Meniere's disease. OBJECTIVE Comparison of blockage of the longitudinal flow of endolymph between ears affected by Meniere's disease and normal e...
متن کاملPreliminary report: neural firing patterns specific for Meniere’s disease
OBJECTIVE To describe the application of a new, objective diagnostic test for Meniere's disease. INTRODUCTION Electrovestibulography (EVestG) is a complex, newly-developed test paradigm that searches for neural firing patterns that may be diagnostic for particular neural disorders. EVestG system was previously "trained" to distinguish Meniere's disease from other patients on a set of training...
متن کاملAutoimmunity as a Candidate for the Etiopathogenesis of Meniere's Disease: Detection of Autoimmune Reactions and Diagnostic Biomarker Candidate
Meniere's disease is an inner ear disorder that can manifest as fluctuating vertigo, sensorineural hearing loss, tinnitus, and aural fullness. However, the pathologic mechanism of Meniere's disease is still unclear. In this study, we evaluated autoimmunity as a potential cause of Meniere's disease. In addition we tried to find useful biomarker candidates for diagnosis. We investigated the prote...
متن کاملMethylprednisolone Versus Dexamethasone for Control of Vertigo in Patients with Definite Meniere's Disease: A Randomized Clinical Trial
Introduction: Definite Meniere's diseaseis associated with two or more definitive periods of vertigo along with hearing loss, plus tinnitus or aural fullness or both. This study aimed to compare the effect of intratympanic dexamethasone and methylprednisolone on the functional-level scale of pure-tone audiometry (PTA), and class outcome measures of vertigo. Materials and Methods: In this clini...
متن کاملTomography of the vestibular aqueduct in ear disease.
A controversy exists concerning whether or not roentgenographic narrowing or nonvisualization of the vestibular aqueduct is a specific sign for Meniere's disease. Of 190 ears that were evaluated, abnormal aqueducts were seen in 42.9% of ears with Meniere's disease, 45.4% of contralateral, noninvolved ears from patients with Meniere's disease, 41.3% of ears with diseases other than Meniere's dis...
